How to Use Hair Gel

By Megan Winegar

Hair gel is one of the most hair products difficult to use effectively. While it really can add definition to the hair style, can also look stiff and unnatural, if not used with a certain amount of proficiency. Makes sense - the gel goal is to make the hair stiff so it will stay in place - but should still look natural.

hair gelHair Gel can work with any type of hair style, but should not be used in the same way with each other. Here is a brief description of the ways that the gel can be effective:

* In wet or dry hair, the gel can make spikes quickly.

* A small amount of gel can provide chambersburg hospital or finer braids and curls stand in place.

* A little gel in the root can add volume to hair styles (we will return to this).

* A little gel to scrunch naturally curly hair can add a definition.

Make sure that when you buy a styling hair gel, you consider your hair type. Most hair gels are made for certain types - short, curly, fine, etc. You also have to consider the look you want to accomplish with the gel. Some gels can give a good light on when used with a diffuser and hair dryers, while others are made to hold stiff, as well as with men gel.

hair gelOnce you have a gel that you can use, there are some guidelines that will help to make things work more effectively. First, do not put a lot of gel on the tip of your hair. This weight your hair down and maybe neutralize any body you get from the gel. Avoid applying the gel to one part of hair - it does not make a better hold gel, it just makes your hair look clumpy and globby. Gel usually works better for fine or medium hair. Very thick hair can be styled with gel, but it is more difficult. Be sure to find the extra hold gel or gel for thick hair if possible.

Wash your hair before you style it, and decide whether you want to look wet or dry when you're finished. If you want to look wet, apply the gel while still wet hair and let air dry. If you want to look dry, apply on damp or dry hair, but if it is still wet, use a diffuser or dry carefully into the hair style you want. For a very short hair, apply the gel to dry hair is a great way to create a quick spike. Dry hair needs less hair gel than wet, so if you want to look dry, be sure to implement efficient and rub your hands first to help the gel to spread more evenly.
